For the 2010 – 2011 season, the MSO will look into works of the Romantic Era (1824 – 1900) and pieces that were influenced by the romantic style.
Designed for students grades 7 through 12, these programs aim to expose older students to large-scale works of the classical repertory.

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings
Franz Schubert - Mass No. 2 in G Major
George Frideric Handel - Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah
The American composer Samuel Barber went largely overlooked in his lifetime, with
the exception of his masterpiece Adagio for Strings. Its rich colors and harmonies
will set the stage for the pinnacle of orchestral/choral romanticism, Franz Schubert’s
Mass No. 2 in G Major. In the spirit of the holidays, the MSO and Teen Choral Partners
will perform the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

There are few pieces that take an audience on an adventurous journey like Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. The MSO and its world renowned music director, Edo de Waart, will explore this romantic masterpiece and the story behind its composition.
