Pursuit of Freedom

THE PURSUIT OF FREEDOM

Enhanced Concert Series

Knowledge and understanding of music connects all cultures and generations. The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra is proud to launch the “Pursuit of Freedom” project, an enhanced concert series initiative spanning two seasons.

This special series focuses on the music of composers whose artistic freedom or body of work has been suppressed or significantly restricted by adverse twentieth century religious or political forces and movements, including:

  • Anton Dvořák
  • Felix Mendelssohn
  • Sergei Prokofiev
  • Dmitri Shostakovich
  • Hilarion Alfeyev

Throughout the 2012.13 and 2013.14 seasons, the MSO will delve into the Classics and Basilica series’ featured themes to offer revealing talks by major scholars and artists, underscored by live performances and musical demonstrations. Join us to celebrate the transcendent and liberating power of music.
