David Taggart

    Viola

    David Taggart

A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, David joined the MSO in January 1979, after serving as principal violist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Colorado Philharmonic, and the Cleveland Civic Orchestra. In addition to his MSO musical duties, he has served on several orchestra and Board committees.

David began his musical life in a church boys' choir, and was a featured soprano, then baritone, soloist in multiple church and school ensembles. He studied voice into his college years before choosing to focus exclusively on instrumental performance.

David is a 14-year survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and spends a good deal of time every year raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Away from the stage, David is an enthusiastic recumbent bicyclist; he and his wife Terry pedal their tandem from Mequon to Sturgeon Bay each July in the Scenic Shore 150, a two-day ride to raise funds for the Society's Wisconsin chapter. Since 2005, David has grown his fundraising team, known as "Team Chemo-Sabe", and this year's team of 45 riders raised $44,175, bringing the total raised since 2005 to over $200,000 for the fight against blood cancers.
