Josh Phillips currently performs as fourth horn in the Milwaukee Symphony, a position he has held since November of 2011. Prior to performing with Milwaukee, Josh played with the West Point Band for six years at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. He has performed with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, Red Light New Music, as well as the Albany Symphony, Rhythm and Brass, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In the summer he also performs with the Grand Teton Music Festival and has performed with Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago.
He holds a Bachelor of Music in horn performance with an outside field in multimedia design from Ithaca College and a Master of Music from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Josh’s teachers include Gail Williams, William Barnewitz, Alex Shuhan, and William VerMeulen. When not performing, Josh collaborates with many of his colleagues doing freelance graphic design. He and his wife Ellen reside in Milwaukee and spend as much time as possible hiking, running, and being outdoors.
