Bach's Christmas Oratorio | November 22 - 24, 2024 - FREE when you order 3 classics performances
Now considered one of Bach’s most opulent musical achievements, his Christmas Oratorio went unheard for over a century after its first performances, until a resurgence of holiday celebrations brought it back into fashion. Each of its six cantatas was intended for a Christmas high feast day; Music Director Ken-David Masur and the MSO are joined by the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus to ensure the oratorio’s messages of contemplation, abundance, and jubilation ring from the rafters.
Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet | January 24 - 25, 2025
When Music Director Ken-David Masur tapped Concertmaster Jinwoo Lee after a four-year search, he praised Lee’s energy, musical curiosity, and “great artistic spontaneity.” Those qualities also describe this kaleidoscopic program, which finds Lee performing Sibelius’s dreamy Violin Concerto following Nielsen’s symphonic poem about the lusty god Pan’s pursuit of a water nymph.
Vivaldi's The Four Seasons | January 31 - February 2 , 2025
Baroque violinist Rachell Ellen Wong, Grand Prize winner of the inaugural J.S. Bach Competition, returns to the MSO to lead one of the most iconic treasures in all of the Baroque repertoire: Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.
Ingrid Fliter Plays Mozart | February 28 - March 1, 2025
Fliter joins the MSO for Mozart’s smiling Piano Concerto No. 17. This heartfelt program continues with music from Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet, complete with a masquerade ball, declarations of love, and a tragic ending for the star-crossed lovers.
Copland's Appalachian Spring | April 4 - 5, 2025
MSO Assistant Conductor Ryan Tani returns to the podium to guide this lively program, which begins with Copland’s sentimental paean to the American heartland, Appalachian Spring, and ends with Beethoven’s buoyant and brilliant Fourth Symphony.
Brahms Requiem | April 11 - 13, 2025
Music Director Ken-David Masur conducts the orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, and Artistic Partner Dashon Burton through Brahms’s personal journey of sorrow and consolation.
Pines of Rome | May 9 - 10, 2025
Musical pictures abound in this imaginative program, led by Music Director Ken-David Masur, which begins with Rossini’s galloping William Tell overture and Richard Strauss’s tone poem delighting in the pranks of a jokester named Till Eulenspiegel.
Bernstein & Bartók | May 30 - 31, 2025
Completing this season’s three-part exploration of tragic lovers Romeo and Juliet is Leonard Bernstein’s suite of Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, overflowing with familiar tunes such as “Somewhere,” “Cool,” and “Maria.”
