Concert Details

Many sections of the orchestra are on stunning display in this rich and varied program. Vaughan Williams celebrates the strings in his soaring Fantasia, the composer’s most enduring work; an all-string orchestra stars alongside a vocalist in Britten’s dreamy song cycle Les Illuminations. Brahms once declared that “it would be difficult to discover a finer, more refreshing impression of really abundant and charming creative talent” than in Dvořák's Serenade for Wind Instruments. The brass steals the show from the very beginning of Tomasi’s bright and dynamic Fanfares.
