    Masur Takes the Reins

    Concert Details

Welcome, Music Director Ken-David Masur! For his inaugural concerts, Masur has selected music to which he feels a personal connection. Schumann’s only piano concerto; written at a time when such concertos were expected to be lightweight and flashy, Schumann’s stands apart for its substance and grace. Ingrid Fliter, an artist whose “lyricism is exquisite, her piano tone luminous” (Telegraph) performs the Schumann. This historic program closes with a suite from Strauss’s well-loved opera “The Knight of the Rose.”
