Heejeon Ahn

Second Violin

Violinist Heejeon Ahn has established a diverse and accomplished career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. A native of Seoul, Korea, she began studying the violin at the age of five and made her debut with the Korean Symphony Orchestra at twelve. She has performed as a soloist with the Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra, Yonsei Symphony Orchestra, and Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra, among others. She has received top prizes in numerous international and regional competitions, including the Wigmore Hall Chamber Music Competition, Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, Ackerman Chamber Music Competition, and the OSAKA International Music Competition.

An enthusiastic collaborator, Ahn has worked with distinguished artists such as Gary Hoffman, Colin Carr, Tim McAllister, Nicholas Phan, Hsin-Yun Huang, Edward Arron, Dong-Suk Kang, and Young-Chang Cho. She has appeared at major festivals, including the Music Alp Festival in France and the Seoul Spring Festival in Korea. She is also the founding member and first violinist of the Pelia Quartet, which has held residencies at Williams College, the SUNY Rockefeller Institute of Government, and the Pierrot Chamber Music Festival at Adelphi University. The ensemble has performed alongside the Emerson Quartet, Tessa Lark, David Shifrin, and Johannes Moser, and has appeared at La Jolla SummerFest, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, and Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. The quartet also performed at Alice Tully Hall as part of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Family Concert Series, further establishing their presence on prominent chamber music stages.

In addition to her solo and chamber music pursuits, Ahn has demonstrated leadership as concertmaster of both the Cleveland Institute of Music and Stony Brook Symphony Orchestras. She has performed as a substitute violinist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. She has been deeply engaged in chamber music masterclasses and performances with world-renowned faculty, showcasing her versatility and musical excellence.

A dedicated educator, she has guided college and pre-college students as a violin faculty member at the Pierrot Chamber Music Festival and served as a Teaching Assistant for the University Orchestra at Stony Brook University. Through her residency with the SUNY Rockefeller Institute of Government, she worked closely with students at SUNY Schenectady and children in the Empire State Youth Orchestra’s CHIME program. She remains committed to mentoring young musicians through private lessons, ensemble coaching, and curriculum development.

Ahn earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Yonsei University, studying with Dong-Suk Kang. She later completed her Artist Diploma at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the guidance of Jaime Laredo and Jan Sloman and earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University with a full scholarship, studying with Philip Setzer, Arnaud Sussmann, and members of the Emerson String Quartet.
