CONCERT DETAILS

A powerful program featuring Sibelius's Symphony No. 6 and Tchaikovsky’s highly original first piano concerto. Tchaikovsky’s colleague Hans von Bülow claimed that “this true gem shall earn you the gratitude of all pianists.” The MSO's own Associate Conductor Ryan Tani conducts as guest pianist Kate Liu makes her Bradley Symphony Center debut.

What to Expect:

  • An electric debut performance by pianist Kate Liu; learn more about the artist here.
  • Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto, which has appeared in films such as The Music Lovers
  • Sibelius's sixth symphony, which he thought of as “an expression of a spiritual creed, a phase in one’s inner life”
  • Composer Anna Clyne’s Color Field, inspired in part by Mark Rothko’s Orange, Red, Yellow, which she calls “a powerful example of the artist’s Color Field paintings, featuring red and yellow framing a massive swash of vibrant orange that seems to vibrate off the canvas”

The MSO Steinway piano was made possible through a generous gift from Michael & Jeanne Schmitz
