Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty

Celebrated for her versatility, compelling interpretations, and flawless technique, violinist Francesca Dego performs Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, a work crackling with cinematic tension like a modern film score — a virtuosic thrill ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Alpesh Chauhan, hailed as “a charismatic, balletic conductor” (The Guardian), also leads the orchestra in an energetic and romantic suite from Tchaikovsky’s iconic Sleeping Beauty.

Please note that the artist and program for these performances have changed due to the illness of the originally scheduled guest cellist.

What to Expect:

Sleeping Beauty, which you’ll recognize from… well, Sleeping Beauty! Disney adapted much of Tchaikovsky’s ballet music for the 1959 movie of the same name, including “Once Upon a Dream”
Listen for the cinematic sweep and suspense of Prokofiev’s famed Violin Concerto No. 2. The composer later wrote film scores, and you can hear the beginnings of that dramatic tension and charged emotional atmosphere in this work.

8:45 a.m. — Arrive at the southeast lot at Mayfair Mall, east of the former Boston Store to board the coach bus.
9:00 a.m. — Prelude Shuttle departs from Mayfair arriving at the Bradley Symphony Center around 9:30 a.m.
Depart immediately following the concert. Advance notice is not required for the return trip.

Meet the Artist Luncheon
