Classics Blockbuster 6 Series
Movement & Melody | October 23 - 25, 2026 (Friday, Sunday)
Guest conductor David Roberston leads a rhythmic program full of music created expressly for movement and dance. First up are two pieces by Chopin — a Parisian-style waltz and a graceful nocturne — arranged by the dance-minded Stravinsky for Diaghilev’s ballet Les Sylphides.
Royal Fireworks | November 14 - 15, 2026 (Saturday, Sunday)
Handel composed his Music for the Royal Fireworks for a monumental occasion: the celebration of the end of an eight-year war and the signing of a treaty of peace. Guest conductor Matthew Halls leads this 18th-century program, which begins with a breezy orchestral suite from Rameau’s opera dealing with Boreas, the god of the north wind.
Guitar Celebration: From Rodrigo to Zappa | January 22 - 23, 2027 (Friday)
The MSO celebrates the rhythms and range of the guitar as guest conductor David Robertson invites the world’s finest crossover guitarists to bring its scintillating repertoire to life. These concerts span genres from classical to rock, with music specifically written for guitar by composers from Joaquín Rodrigo to Frank Zappa.
Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony | January 30 - 31, 2027 (Saturday, Sunday)
A critic once said of Beethoven’s seventh symphony that it has a “certain secret magic.” Driving that secret magic is guest conductor Paolo Bortolameolli, whom the Los Angeles Times has praised for his “crisp, dynamic performance.” Versatile pianist David Fray also joins the MSO this week to perform Ravel’s piano concerto.
Mozart Requiem | February 19 - 20, 2027 (Friday, Saturday)
Containing the final notes that Mozart ever composed, his requiem is considered one of the most sublime pieces of music ever written. Guest conductor Jaime Martín takes the podium as the MSO and the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus breathe life into this staggering work of tenderness, intensity, and beauty
Holst’s The Planets | April 2 - 4, 2026 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Stephanie Childress leads one of classical music’s grandest spectacles: Holst’s The Planets. With movements including the ethereal “Neptune, the Mystic” to the thundering “Mars, the Bringer of War,” this iconic suite sweeps you to the heavens. The MSO’s own Margaret Butler takes center stage with Ned Rorem’s gleaming English Horn Concerto.
Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony | April 16 - 18, 2027 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
“I conceived of it as glorifying the grandeur of the human spirit . . . praising the free and happy man,” said Prokofiev of his uplifting fifth symphony, composed against the backdrop of WWII. Pianist Simon Trpčeski returns to the MSO to perform Beethoven’s propulsive and heroic “Emperor” concerto.
Enigma Variations | June 4 - 6, 2027 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
The “Enigma” variations is an inventive 14-piece suite, with each selection consisting of a variation on a shared original theme written by Edward Elgar. Elgar dedicated the work "to my friends pictured within," drawing inspiration from family and friends for the tune of each musical sketch. William Walton’s Balshazzar’s Feast takes you on a biblical quest with the help of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus.
